MATCH REPORT
Dundee West Royals 2006’s were back in league action, after a cup defeat to Monifieth the week before, where they travelled to Dundee United Social Club, who were yet to be beaten in the league.
Dundee West started they game with intent, and pressed forwards to pressure DUSC in the opening minutes.
2mins in, West almost found themselves ahead, when McManamon chased down a back pass and blocked the keeper’s clearance, but the rebound off him went just wide of the post, but could easily have given West the lead.
4mins in, West found themselves with a chance to get the ball into the box from a free-kick just inside DUSC’s half. Smart played the ball into the box superbly, and Storrie was there but couldn’t get a touch on the ball, and the DUSC keeper collected, with McManamon lurking but just too late to steal the ball away.
A minute later, McManamon earned the first corner for West, with good work up the left flank. Smith took the corner, playing to the back post where McManamon was free, but blasted the half volley wide of the mark, with another early chance gone begging for West.
0-1: On 7mins, DUSC hit on the counter after a great West start, with a simple ball through the middle of the park, and their rapid forward beat the backline to round the helpless Nixon, and pass the ball into the net.
0-2: 3mins after their first, DUSC made it 2, with a similar counter. Johnstone had played in Storrie, who tried to slot Crabb through on the right, but DUSC blocked the through ball and went route one again, with their pacey forward yet again breaking through and slotting the ball in off the post.
On 13mins, DUSC were almost through again, but Smart read the ball well when the DUSC tried to dummy the ball through his legs, and the danger was cleared.
20mins in, with West trying to battle their way back into a tough game, Smith found space wide right from a Chalmers throw in, and with great work beat the full back to play in a perfect cross, but somehow the ball evaded Storrie, McManamon and Gilmurray.
0-3: With DUSC starting to dominate, they added a third on 28mins, with a long ball over the top misread by the West backline, and the receiving DUSC player took it first time to lay off square to his unmarked team-mate, who blasted the ball into the top of the net, giving Nixon no chance.
0-4: 3mins later, DUSC effectively ended the tie before the half time whistle with a fourth. A ball up the left flank was crossed in low and finished first time by their striker after more poor marking by West.
Half-time: Dundee West Royals 0 – 4 DUSC
Substitution HT = Storrie off, Paton on. Paton to LM, Gilmurray to ST.
0-5: 2mins into the second half, DUSC added another. Smart was caught in possession when he collected a through ball, and the DUSC striker stole the ball away and slotted past Nixon.
0-6: on 39mins, DUSC’s sixth went in, with West heads totally down and the game gone, another ball through the back line was finished well.
Substitution 45mins = Smart off, Singer on. Smith off, Mitchell on. Paton to CM, Mitchell to LM.
47mins in, West did create a half chance to try and at least get on the scoresheet, when a free kick from wide left was swung into the back post. Crabb received the ball, but his shot was blocked well, and the rebound fell to McManamon, but again, DUSC defended his shot and cleared the danger.
0-7: 11mins from time, DUSC made it 7. Another textbook through ball and slotting past Nixon, who could do little about it.
0-8: 2mins later, with West having completely given up it seemed, DUSC added their 8th. The DUSC winger beat 3 West men down the left flank to cross for his team mate, who finished well high into the net.
0-9: 5mins from time, to complete a humiliating score-line, DUSC scored their 9th and final goal of the game, with a chip from the edge of the box high over Nixon’s head.
West had a half chance in the final minute, when McManamon dribbled past the DUSC midfield creating space for Paton, but the ball through was chased down by DUSC and cleared.
Full time: Dundee West Royals 0-9 DUSC
Man of the Match:
Dundee West suffered a humiliating defeat, albeit to a good side who haven’t lost a game in the league. This was West’s heaviest defeat this season by a long way, having basically given up after going down early, a stark contrast to the week before where they went in at the break against Monifieth 3-0 down, but kept them at bay for the second half. Although the substitutes did show signs of determination, the game was long gone and West never really looked like getting on the scoresheet.
