2016 Royals Boys vs Forfar - Another goal fest! (Game 2)

22/09/2025

In the 2nd game of the day the Messi team took on their counterparts from Forfar. Last time the teams met, Dundee West prevailed but by no means was an easy game. So the coaches knew this would be a tough test.

After a strong start from the boys, Forfar took the lead slightly against the run of play. Their striker burst through on goal, Harrison initially made a fantastic save, only for the ball to land at the strikers feet who made no mistake in slotting the ball home.

The boys didn’t let their heads go down and were soon back level. Harry Mc took control of the ball in midfield and played a measured through ball for Finn to chase. Finn’s hard work paid off when he forced the keeper into a rushed clearance, and even with the ball bouncing extremely awkwardly, Camden showed a touch of class with a composed side foot finish from outside the box. A well-deserved equaliser.

This goal spurred Forfar into life and they started to apply some pressure on our goal, but an excellent defensive display from Harry R and Cody were helping keep them away from Harrison’s goal. Unfortunately, the Forfar pressure was finally rewarded when a couple of defensive mix-ups allowed them to score 2 goals in quick succession.

Again, the boys reacted well to this set back, with Rio and Kai looking very dangerous in the wide areas they began to push forward again. This was rewarded with Finn scoring after a defensive mix up.

At the start of the 2nd half the boys started slowly and were soon punished by Forfar who scored two goals to further extend their lead. But to the boy’s credit, and not for the first time this season, they came roaring back into it.

Finn started the comeback with a cool finish after a defence splitting through ball from Cody. This was quickly followed by a goal from Harry Mc, as he spun sharply in the box and fired home into the bottom corner.

10 minutes of end-to-end football was taking their toll on all the players, so it was good timing when Daniel was introduced into the defence with fresh legs keeping us defensively strong which allowed us to finally get the equaliser. Kai, who was causing havoc in their defence, beat his man and played a slide rule pass through to Camden, who showed great composure to slot the ball beyond the keepers outstretched glove.

For the last 5 mins the boys pressed and pressed looking for the winner, but it wasn’t to be, and they had to settle for the draw in the end.

The resilience of this group of boys continues to impress the coaches, so many times this season they have been a few goals behind and managed to fight their way back into games and not let their heads go down. It really is a credit to the boys and their never say die attitude.

MoM – Harry McIntosh

An absolute midfield masterclass from Harry today. The true definition of what a box-to-box midfielder needs to do. Covered every blade of grass in his efforts not only to help his team defensively but push the team forward as well. Technically excellent too showing composure on the ball and his passing started several counter attacks for us. Well done Harry!
