After playing them not too long ago, we knew exactly what Monifieth were capable of if they were allowed to play their own game. All pre match conversations were about getting goal side and tracking back.

Monifieth came flying out of the tracks and unfortunately some lapses in concentration saw us lose 3 quick goals inside the first 5 minutes. The rest of the half followed much of the same pattern with Jack in goal having to pull off some good saves and the defence having to put in a good shift. A few breaks forward proved that when we played our game we could do so. 2 more goals were conceded before half time.

Half time was about reminding the boys what was asked of them pre match and asking them to go out and win the 2nd half, treat it as 0-0. A much better showing to start the half with Kaleb’s energy in midfield and Josh as always buzzing about up front. Josh played Noell in but unfortunately he just couldn't get it under control. Eventually we got on the score sheet, some strong play in the midfield saw the ball find its way out to Noah who swung in a beautiful cross which Kaleb met on the half volley giving the keeper no chance. A much more end to end 2nd half with both defences and goalkeepers having to hold strong to keep the scores as they were. 2 Monifieth goals in the last 10 minutes saw the scoring completed. This was how the match ended, not before Jack reached up high to his right to claw one out of the top corner to deny what looked to be a certain goal.

Overall a frustrating morning for Dundee West but some positives to take from the 2nd half performance and the boys not letting their heads drop.

POTM

Jack McKinlay - A few very good saves to stop the scoreline from being worse than it was. Finishing with a brilliant save high to his right to claw one away. Alongside the shot stopping, Jack was his usual vocal self, organising his defence throughout.
