Dundee West Girls U12 Reds - Match Report 29.10.22

30/10/2022

Dundee West Reds played their respected rivals Jeanfield Jazz in another barnstormer of a match at Charlotte Street. The much improved Jeanfield side went toe to toe with the Reds and to be honest a draw would have been a fair result as on the day there was nothing between the teams except a couple of moments of quality.

Jeanfield started strongly and impressed with their strength and pace particularly through their centre midfielder and energy and quality of their number 10. The Reds held fast though mainly thanks to Grace and Chloe in the first half. Daisy our goalkeeper was also in inspired form and without doubt played the best game of her season. It was the Reds that took the lead from a counter attack. Layla was sent through on goal against the Jeanfield keeper but the keeper got to the ball first and cleared it high and across the half way line. Lacy played the ball back to Neve who struck a beautiful first time pass to Oorlagh. She had  drifted out on to the right wing and received the ball on the back foot, she shaped to go down the line but cut inside with her right foot, the centre half advanced to tackle but Oorlagh slipped the ball between the two defenders with her left foot. Layla as number 9 received the ball and played it out wide to Lacy who had overlapped Oorlagh and she drove the ball across goal. Layla had spun after her lay off and was on hand to slot the ball under the keeper to open the scoring. Chances came after this but either saw a lack of composure or fine saves from the keepers. The Reds scored again though this time with a move from the left. Taylor with some clever footwork got the better of her opposition and played a ball over the top for Layla to chase. The defender got to the ball first but was pressed immediately and out strength by Layla. She bore down on goal forcing the keeper to come off her line. Oorlagh had sprinted with the recovering defenders from her own half and when the ball was played across the goal Oorlagh accelerated in front of the centre half to finish into the empty net. A terrific counter attack.

The second half saw Jeanfield get a goal back through their number 10 sprinting through on goal and finishing perfectly passed Daisy as said both players had been terrific all game but that finished the scoring. There were moments of quality from both sides and chances that could have been converted.

The Reds fought hard with strong performances from Grace, Chloe and Oorlagh but the player of the match was Daisy who as all great goalkeepers kept their team in the game at times with wonderful saves and brave goalkeeping.

Another highly entertaining match and the Reds can be proud of their efforts again. All the best to Jeanfield and to thank them for an exciting  game for all that were present at Charlotte street.
